Psyllium (Plantago Psyllium) is an annual herb with a branched stem up to 40 cm high. The leaves are opposite, linear, entire, slightly toothed in the upper part, up to 7 cm long. The flowers are small, collected in small ovoid heads on long pedicels. The fruit is an ellipsoidal capsule containing numerous seeds. They are scaphoid, with inwardly curved edges, smooth, slippery, shiny, dark brown, almost black, 1.7-2.8 cm long and 0.6-1.5 mm wide, odorless and tasteless. The natural range includes almost all of Europe, except for the north, North Africa, countries of Asia with a temperate climate and the Indian subcontinent. The plant has spread almost all over the world in the temperate zone.
